If Alvarez vacates, Derevyanchenko and Gennadiy Golovkin will most likely be ordered to fight for the vacant belt
If you cast your mind back to 2017 we had the same situation between Gennadiy Golovkin and the IBF? GGG was given the go ahead to fight Vanes Martirosyan under the pretense he would fulfill his mandatory obligations and fight Sergio Derevyanchenko next. Golovkin failed to fulfill his mandatory obligation and was subsequently stripped? Ironically, we are back here here again with his block buster dancing partner Canelo Alvarez
ESPN reports that unified IBF/WBC “franchise” Champion/WBA “super” middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KO) missed his June 15th deadline with Derevyanchenko (13-1, 10 KO), Derevyanchenko again became the IBF mandatory challenger after his victory, earlier this year over Jack Culcay. As a result, his belt is “in jeopardy,” with Mike Coppinger adding that the IBF is “expected to order a purse bid” between the camps.
If Canelo avoids Derevyanchenko and vacates in favor of Callum Smith or anyone else that has been gate crashing the media recently, the most likely two contenders for the then-vacant title are Derevyanchenko and Golovkin.
