David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant announced for March 25 in Las Vegas to determine Canelo Alvarez’s next WBC mandatory challenger
the former world champions will go head-to-head in the highly competitive super middleweight division when David Benavidez takes on Caleb Plant on March 25th.
Benavidez became the youngest-ever 168-pound world champion when he beat Ronald Gavril by split decision for the vacant title in 2017. After making just one defence of the WBC belt and highlighting Gavril in the rematch, Benavidez was stripped of the world recreational drug use title.
In 2019 he defeated Anthony Dirrell to regain his world title before losing weight in his next fight and losing the belt on the scales. The Mexican is still fighting at super middleweight and will go into the fight with an unbeaten record (26-0, 23 KOs) and a streak of six straight stoppage wins.
Meanwhile, former IBF champion Caleb Plant is a long-time rival of Benavidez, with online back-and-forth matches regularly occurring in recent years.
