In his recent interview with iFL TV following Anthony Joshua’s victory over Andy Ruiz Jr. Eddie hearn shed some light on Dillian Whyte’s situation with the WBC and loosing his mandatory position.
Earlier this year it was leaked that Whyte had failed a drug test two days prior to his showdown with Oscar Rivas. The leak which has not yet been officially confirmed by team Dilian, also leaked that team Rivas was not made aware of the situation. This falsely lead to the accusation that Dillian was cleared to fight Rivas with potentially having performance enhancing drugs in his system. This is of course NOT true. Although no charges had been made, bans or fines issued the leaked information triggered many articles and of course a media outcry which got the attention of the WBC.
This lead to Whyte being suspended and strippped of his mandatory position. Whyte has been unable to address the issue publicly due to legal restrictions preventing him from being able to discuss the issue. It was revealed via an announcement from UKAD the issue is now cleared with no charges against Dillian Whyte being made. Eddie confirms in the interview below that there was never actually a failed test to begin with. He and Dillian Whyte have made it clear they will be taking legal action against those responsible for the slander
This is what Eddie Hearn had to say on the issue
what the wbc have done to Dillian Whyte is terrible, how you can ban someone, suspend someone and takeaway their mandatory after all these years we’ve been campaigning for the mandatory position. Make Tyson Fury a mandatory in a fight that was already made just to comfort the champion so that he fulfills his mandatory and doesn’t have to fight Dillian Whyte for another year is wrong. How can you suspend someone when the testing agency and the commision have not suspended him and VADA who they work with ( clean boxing programme ) have not suspended him. And there was never a failed drugs test.
