Eddie Hearn targets Ted Cheeseman vs Scott Fitzgerald bout for the end of 2019 on Sky Sports and DAZN

Despite having a tricky couple of fights of late, British Super Welterweight Champion Ted Cheeseman (15-1-1 9 KOs) refuses to let his momentum fade.1 min

Ted Cheeseman came on to the scene in 2015 with Matchroom Boxing and became English Champion in just under two years of his debut. His ‘come forward’ and ‘inside fighting’ style quickly became popular with fans. This led to many showcase appearances on Sky’s NXT GEN that supported a 2018 run that saw him pick up both the British Super Welterweight title (against Asinia Byfield) and the WBA International title battle (against Carson Jones).
2019 has yet to be Cheeseman’s year so far. ‘The Big Cheese’ found his style and level could not match Spain’s Sergio Garcia (now 30-0 13 KO’s having recently defeated Rabchenka at the weekend) for the EBU Super Welterweight title in March – and last Friday, found himself unlucky to not come away with a win against Northampton boxer Kieron Conway, who was able to get a draw.
Despite these early minor setbacks, Ted Cheeseman will continue to develop his skill set and will continue to be moved on by promoter Eddie Hearn.
Speaking to Boxing Social after Cheeseman’s draw with Keron Conway, Eddie Hearn said: –
”I think everyone in here had Cheeseman winning by three rounds, something like that, but take nothing away from Conway – after six rounds, I did have it all square! But I didn’t really give him much, probably the twelth, I struggled to give him more than four rounds of the fight…Ted was sloppy at times, he’s got to improve because he can’t fight like that against Scott Fitzgerald. That will be his next fight. It’s a dangerous fight, it’s a brilliant domestic fight, but he’s got to improve. You’re talking probably September/October time for that fight.”

There’s no doubt that Scott Fitzgerald (13-0 9 KOs) would provide Ted Cheeseman with the perfect test at this stage of his career. A win for either of the highly durable boxers would look great on the CV and in the case of Cheeseman, would provide a second chance at the higher levels that he believes he can compete at.
