Lynn AC, Britain’s oldest amateur boxing club, is set to reopen its doors later this month, thanks to a generous contribution from The Matchroom Charitable Foundation. Matchroom’s commitment ensures the continuation of the club’s legacy, which dates back to its formation in 1892.
Renovation for a Bright Future
Matchroom’s rescue package has initiated immediate renovations to the club. Extensive improvements, including a complete refurbishment with brand new screed flooring, are in progress. These enhancements aim to provide a modern and safe training environment for hundreds of aspiring amateur fighters.
Lynn AC’s Rich Legacy
Founded in 1892, Lynn AC has been a cornerstone of South London’s boxing community. The club boasts a remarkable history, surviving crises such as an air raid during World War II. Notable British boxing alumni, including Ellie Scotney, Adam Booth, and Chris Kongo, have trained at Lynn AC.
A Visit from Matchroom Chairman Eddie Hearn
Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn, accompanied by IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion Ellie Scotney and DAZN commentator Mike Costello, recently visited Lynn AC to witness the early stages of renovations. Hearn expressed delight in supporting the club, emphasizing the importance of grassroots initiatives in sustaining the sport.
