The unified lightweight champion puts his IBF, WBA, and WBO lightweight titles on the line against George Kambosos Jr. on Saturday night. It all takes place live from LoanDepot Park in Miami and live on pay-per-view via Triller Fight Club.
During the press conference for the fight back in April, Lopez made his objective clear: “My goal is to become the first male to become two-time undisputed champion back-to-back.”
In order to look ahead to a unification fight with WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney and beyond to undisputed junior welterweight champ Josh Taylor, Lopez can’t afford to falter against Kambosos first.
Lopez is coming off a stirring unanimous decision victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko in October when he outboxed the man who many believed to be the pound-for-pound best in the sweet science.
He’ll be up against a game Kambosos, who produced a split-decision win over Lee Selby in October as well.
Both Lopez and Kambosos have shared an increasingly growing disdain for each other leading up to this bout, which should culminate with fireworks in the ring
