A few years ago, a video showing Usman Ahmed dancing to the ring, taunting his opponent and getting knocked clean out in the first round went viral… And TO THIS DAY, it still regularly makes the rounds on social media… But it appears the viral video isn’t exactly what it seems to be….
Speaking to Dan Hewit during a live stream of On The Box TV (Boxing TV), Ahmed gave some interesting information regarding the video: –
“First of all, it’s a really good edit! The video edit is a very good edit! The actual entrance, where I do a long entrance, it actually belongs to a Chris Edwards fight, when I fought for the British and Commonwealth titles in Stoke-on-Trent, which I lost on points after 12 rounds”
Ahmed further explained: –
”A year later, I fought for the English title against Ashley Sexton, which was also on Sky Sports. He’s the one that knocked me out in the first round! So it is correct – I did get knocked out in the first round but it wasn’t actually the fight that the entrance belongs to. It was two different fights joined together! Both fights were on Sky Sports, I had the same shorts on (sic in both fights)… “The things is, I didn’t even come in to that song!”
Now retired Ahmed seemed to appreciate the funny side of the video as he went on to point out:
“I’m not going to complain, it made me famous, I met some famous people.”
“It’s all for banter, it’s all for laughs, it doesn’t matter!”
“You’ve got to take a negative and turn it in to a positive.
Usman Ahmed (8-9-2) retired from the sport in 2016 having challenged for the British, Commonwealth, English and Midlands Area titles at Flyweight.
