It's not often a boxer so young comes on to the scene in such a fashion, but when it does happen, it's always a joy to behold.
Vito Mielnicki Jnr (1-0 1KO) wowed the Newark crowd and announced himself in the boxing world with a fantastic display against Tarmarcus Smith (2-3 (2 KOs). Looking very much the prospect, Mielnick Jnr showcased his ability to move in and out and deliver some great combination punching. Much to the delight of the 1,000 strong support in the arena, Mielnick Jnr proved New Jersey’s State Athletic Control Board right in granting him a license to box. Permission was needed due to the high school student being under the age of 18.
Speaking to TheRingDigital after the fight, Mielnicki Jnr said:-
"I'm strong, I'm a boxer puncher and I feel like that's why the pros are good for me. Alot of people came out to support me tonight and I want to say thank you to them...I know I will always have support behind me...For now I want to stay at 147 but I can see myself ending up at middleweight...I came down from 176 for this fight...After high school my main focus is going to be boxing...For now I'm still young...I'm still 17 and I can see myself contending for a title by the time I'm 21."
The boxing world will undoubtedly look forward to tracking the career of the young boxer from north Jersey - and with "White Magic" looking to get back out in October, it won't be too long before the journey continues.
