The WBA Asia has officially announced the launch of the WBA Asia National Tournament, revealed during the annual judges and referees seminar in Bangkok, Thailand. Won Kim, representing WBA Asia, and Liu Gan, representing WBA China, provided insights into this initiative aimed at fostering the development of boxing in Asia through a tournament involving multiple participants, offering both activity and sporting rewards.
Collaborating with local commissions in countries such as Vietnam and China, among others, they showcased the unique belts designed for each event. These belts proudly feature the flag of the country, the commission’s logo, and, of course, the emblem of WBA Asia.
The tournament structure kicks off with a round of 16, featuring direct elimination in 4-round bouts. Victorious participants will progress to the quarterfinals, where they will compete in 6-round bouts. The semifinals will also consist of 6-round matches, leading to an 8-round final.
The tournament’s winner will earn the privilege to challenge the regional champion of their category and will be awarded a special belt unique to this competition. An interesting addition is the golden round, implemented for fights that conclude in a draw, requiring an additional round to determine the ultimate winner. This format ensures an exciting and competitive edge to the WBA Asia National Tournament, contributing to the growth of boxing in the region.
