Catterall vs. Eubank: Sam Jones Warns ‘Monumental’ Step Up Could Be Eubank’s Undoing

Undefeated Harlem Eubank rolls the dice against seasoned Jack Catterall in a crucial crossroads clash

Jack Catterall is moving up in weight—but don’t mistake that for moving down in ambition.

After a frustrating decision loss to Arnold Barboza Jr. in February, the former undisputed title hopeful now sets his sights on the welterweight division. And standing across from him at Manchester’s AO Arena will be unbeaten contender Harlem Eubank—a fighter with name value, momentum, and now, a mountain to climb.

That’s according to Sam Jones, manager of Catterall, who believes the matchup is a “brilliant fight,” but a massive leap for Eubank.

“Credit to Harlem for taking the fight,” Jones told media this week. “Because it is a monumental step up for him. I don’t believe he’s ready for this test—but I respect him.”

Catterall (28-2, 13 KOs) is still widely viewed as one of the UK’s most technically sound operators. Many fans haven’t forgotten what he did to Josh Taylor—despite the judges controversially seeing it the other way. But with momentum stalled after two high-profile losses, the 30-year-old southpaw needs to make a statement. And fast.

Enter Harlem Eubank.

At 21-0 (8 KOs), the Brighton native has built a perfect record and notched wins over some of Catterall’s former opponents—but has yet to mix it at the same level. This will be his proving ground, or possibly, his limit.

“He’s under immense pressure,” Jones said. “Of course, Jack is too, but both have a responsibility to give the British public a cracker—and I’m certain of it.”

A Rare Fight Made the Old-Fashioned Way

Matchroom’s Frank Smith echoed those sentiments, praising both fighters for stepping up and making the bout happen quickly—something rarely seen in today’s negotiation-heavy climate.

“This is a tremendous domestic fight,” Smith said. “It took just two or three days to make. That doesn’t happen often. Both men wanted it—and that’s how the best fights get made.”

With the bout set for Manchester’s AO Arena, and an undercard already shaping up with fan-friendly matchups, the stage is set for what could be a make-or-break night for both fighters.

For Eubank, it’s a chance to prove he’s not just a famous name with a padded record. For Catterall, it’s a return to form—and possibly a new chapter at 147.

One thing’s for certain: both men are gambling big.
